Kate Elizabeth Winslet is an English actress. She is known for her indie films, especially historical dramas and often depicts suffering women. Winslet has received a variety of awards, including three British Academy Film Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and is one of the few artists to have won Academy, Emmy and Grammy Awards. Born in Reading, Berkshire, Winslet studied acting at the Redroofs School of Theater. Her first screen appearance, at the age of 15, was in the British TV series dark season. She made her film debut as a teenage killer in the Heavenly Yard and received her first Oscar and Golden Globe Award nomination, while also winning the BAFTA Award and the Screen Actors Association for the role of Marianne Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility. At just 20 years old, she became one of the youngest to receive an award.

She is most recognized for her role as Rose DeWitt Bukater in the 1997 film Titanic. She received Academy Award nominations for her roles in Sense and Sensibility, Titanic, Iris, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Little Children, and won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in The Reader in 2008.
